SBC Service Announcement
Dear SBC Internet Services Member:
SBC Internet Services (SBCIS) is constantly working to combat spam, viruses and other online threats. Below is an update regarding some of SBCIS' efforts to date:
This announcement is informational only. No action is required on your part.
Internet Security: SBC Internet Services is constantly working to make the Internet a safer place for its Members, and we encourage Members to learn more about the security tools available to them. For more information about Internet Security, please visit: http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=5641
Online Protection Software: The SBC Yahoo! Online Protection software suite is available for SBC Yahoo! Members. This free software brings Members several online protection tools in one easy-to-use Dashboard. For more information about the Online Protection software, visit: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/dsl/yop/yop-01.html
Port 25 filtering: Port 25 filters are widely used by many ISPs to combat junk email and spam from mis-configured and virus-infected computers. On May 24, 2005, the Federal Trade Commission specifically recommended that ISPs employ Port 25 filters to combat the spread of spam and viruses. SBCIS has been pro-active in its spam prevention efforts and, as announced in the September 2004 Member newsletters, has implemented filtering direct outgoing email connections using Port 25 to non-SBCIS/Yahoo mail servers from Members using dynamic DSL and Dialup connections.
Because of the Port 25 filters, Members using a private company, university or hosting provider mail server (i.e. non-SBC Yahoo! mail server) will not be able to send outgoing email from dynamic DSL and Dialup connections without taking the steps outlined by SBCIS at http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=4640
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to the changes and new features explained above, SBC Internet Services makes other periodic changes and adjustments to your service. In some cases, SBCIS may provide notice of such changes, and may do so in one of the following ways: 1) email to your SBCIS email account; 2) posting a notice in the monthly Member Newsletter; or 3) posting a notice or alert on the front page of our Member help-site (for SBC Yahoo! Members, click "Help" from your SBC Yahoo! home-page). In order to stay apprised of such changes, you must periodically check your SBCIS email, the Member Newsletter and the SBC Yahoo! Help website.
Sincerely,
SBC Internet Services
